THE FUTURE OF WORK AND ORGANIZATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY
ABOUT THE FUTURE OF WOP
Why we need to think about the future in times of Covid-19
Given that the current Covid-19 pandemic has radically changed work as we know it, what could a critical psychological response look like? Many people feel an urgent need to re-establish some form of normality to alleviate the undoubted stress of lockdown and allied restrictions, but disruption on this scale creates the opportunity to imagine new kinds of normality that might involve healthier, fairer, and more liberating ways of working. We might also resist the tendency for messages about psychological health to be individualised, for example, in discourses about how to maintain productivity while working from home or how to promote wellbeing chiefly through individual action such as meditation, at the expense of thinking about the social structures that shape individual agency. FOWOP offers a forum in which we can think jointly about what response we wish to make to this crisis, and consider what forms that response could usefully take. If you're interested in leading or joining this conversation, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com.
See our discussion piece here, and do get in touch with us if you want to contribute to sustainable solutions for workplaces and organizations beyond the Covid-19 crisis. We all need to think about the future of work.
REFLECTIONS OF THE FUTURE OF WOP DAY AT EAWOP
At the biannual EAWOP 2019 Conference, we organized a Future of WOP Day preceding the conference. During this day, over 70 people attended and we organized four parallel sessions around Critical WOP, methods, healthy academia, and equality in academia.
For each of the parallel session blog posts are written to summarize the main outcomes of the session.
The blogposts can be read here:
Zoe Sanderson also wrote about the FoWOP day for the Psychologist, an online journal of the British Psychological Society. The article can be found here.
And an overall impression of the day can be found here.
